Most people use their diffuser by hand: they switch it on when they remember and off when they remember. It works, but it misses the one thing that really makes a space smell good: consistency.
Compatible models are configured from Aroma Link, the app that lets you set schedules, intensity and diffusion cycles from your phone. It is available for iPhone and Android.
What you can set from the app
- Schedules. What time it starts and what time it stops, with different time slots depending on the day.
- Intensity. How much fragrance is released with each pulse.
- Work and rest cycles. Seconds of diffusion and minutes of pause. This is what stops the space becoming saturated, and what most affects consumption.
- On and off without having to touch the unit.
- Fragrance level alerts on the models that include it, above all those for medium and large spaces. This is the feature that prevents the most common failure in a business: the bottle running out on a Friday with nobody noticing until Monday.

How to make the most of it at home
- Bedroom: gentle cycles an hour before you go to bed and off overnight. There is no need for it to run while you sleep.
- Hallway: this is where the scent registers most, because you notice it as you walk in. A scheduled start half an hour before you get home does all the work.
- Living areas: medium, steady intensity during the hours you are at home.
- Weekends: different time slots from weekdays, because that is when the house is used differently.
The adjustment almost nobody makes
Start low. The sense of smell adapts within minutes, so whoever lives in the house stops noticing the scent while anyone walking in finds it excessive. The sensible approach is to set it below what your instinct tells you and turn it up a few days later if needed, preferably after asking someone who does not live there.
And review it seasonally: in summer the fragrance disperses faster and is perceived more strongly, so January's settings are too much in August.
