Scent moodboard: how to choose the aroma for your space step by step

Moodboard olfativo: cómo visualizar y elegir el aroma perfecto para tu espacio - BENDIS

What a scent moodboard is

In interior design and in branding, the moodboard is a classic: a collage of images, colours and textures that captures an idea before it is built. A scent moodboard does the same thing with aroma: it translates a visual or emotional identity into a coherent fragrance.

Choosing a scent with no criteria behind it is like painting a room in whatever colour happened to be on offer. It may turn out well, but you did not decide it.

The process, in five steps

  1. Write down three adjectives. How you want people to feel as they walk in: calm, energy, warmth, restraint. Three is enough; five is indecision.
  2. Gather visual references. Images that reflect that feeling: landscapes, materials, light. They do not have to have anything to do with scent; the point is to set the tone.
  3. Translate that into an olfactive family using the map below. Usually one or two fit clearly.
  4. Test it in the real space. This step cannot be skipped. A fragrance behaves differently depending on the temperature, the ventilation and the materials in the room; you will not see that on paper. We will send you samples if you ask us.
  5. Document the decision. Note down the fragrance, the intensity and the time slots you have configured. That is what lets you reproduce it next year or in a second site.

The map: families and what they evoke

  • Citrus — freshness, energy, welcome. In the catalogue: Lemon, Mint.
  • Floral — delicacy, calm, care. Jasmine, Orange Blossom, Lavender.
  • Woody — solidity, restraint, permanence. Nº4, Nº10.
  • Oriental — warmth, depth, mystery. Nº12, Nº23.
  • Green — naturalness, discreet freshness. Green Tea, Fig.
  • Aquatic — openness, cleanliness, modernity. Nº3.
  • Gourmand — welcome, comfort. Cappuccino, Cinnamon & Orange.

These associations are cultural, not rules: what we read here as "clean" may well be read differently in another country. Use them as a starting point, not as a verdict.

Two checks before you decide

  • Does the fragrance reinforce your three adjectives or contradict them? If your space is warm and full of wood, a very fresh mentholated note will jar, however good the fragrance is.
  • Is there a background odour to sort out first? Kitchen, damp, toilets or storage override any moodboard. That layer comes first.

And once you have chosen

A scent identity is built on consistency: customers associate the aroma with your space after several visits, not on the first one. Stay with the decision for a few months before rethinking it.

You can see the range under fragrances and the units under diffusers; for business, under rental from 29.90 €/month + VAT per unit with refills included and no minimum term.
