Which scent diffuser do I need for the size of my venue: model-by-model table

Qué difusor de aroma necesito según los metros de mi local: tabla de equivalencias - BENDIS

Short answer: choose the diffuser by the square metres of each area of the venue. Up to 80 m², SENSE. Up to 100 m², LUME. Up to 120 m², FLOW. Up to 600 m², ORBIT, or ATMOS if there are ducts. Up to 800 m², HALO via the ducts. Above that, the WAVE (875 m²) and NOVA (1,600 m²) towers. With high ceilings or separate rooms, go one step up or use two units.

Square metres are the first filter. The second is the tank: a unit with more than enough coverage that needs refilling every few days ends up switched off in a cupboard. That is why this table also shows the capacity and approximate consumption of each model. If you are not yet sure what type of unit your business needs, start with which diffuser to choose for your type of business. And if you want to size your house or flat, the table is different: diffuser size by the square metres of your home.

All the models in the table are cold nebulizers. Unlike an aerosol, which releases a single burst that rises and falls sharply, or an ultrasonic diffuser, which dilutes the fragrance in water and needs refilling daily, they keep a steady intensity for the hours you choose, don't leave anything damp and can be programmed. If you want to understand why, we explain it in what a professional nebulizer is and how it works.

Up to 1,600 m² Large open-plan space NOVA Floor-standing tower 1,500 ml 1,000 ml/month €94.90 + VAT

Consumption is a guide and changes with intensity, schedule and the actual size of the space. The monthly plan includes the unit and all the fragrance it uses each month, whatever the model, with no minimum term and 30 days' notice, in Spain and Portugal. Purchase prices for each model are on its product page and in the professional scenting price index. Units up to 800 m² are in B2B professional, and larger ones in large format.

For toilets, fitting rooms and small changing rooms the unit is the PULSE (7 m², €29.90 + VAT a month), usually with a neutralizer. Each toilet needs its own: it is behind a door and usually has extraction, which carries off the scent from the main room. Standalone, ducted or floor-standing tower

Standalone. Diffuses directly into the air of the room and can be placed wherever needed, with no building work. SENSE, LUME, FLOW and ORBIT work this way. This is what solves most venues.

Connected to ducts. ATMOS and HALO attach to the supply duct of the air conditioning and the scent comes out of every vent. This only makes sense if there is ducted air conditioning and it is running while you want to scent. With split units there is no circuit to inject into. You may be interested in how the BENDIS HALO works in large spaces.

Floor-standing tower. WAVE (55 cm tall) and NOVA (65 cm, the largest tank in the range) stand upright in the space. They do not go through ducts. They are the option for very large areas without central air conditioning.

High ceilings: count cubic metres, not just square metres

Coverage figures assume a normal ceiling height of about 2.5 metres. The FLOW, for example, covers 120 m², which is 300 m³. A 100 m² venue with 5-metre ceilings has twice as much air as one with 2.5-metre ceilings and needs the next model up, or a second diffusion point.

The quick way to work it out: multiply the square metres by the real height and compare with the volume shown on each unit's page. In warehouses, atriums and double-height halls, volume is the reference.

Several rooms: scent doesn't go through walls

Two 50 m² rooms joined by a narrow corridor are not a 100 m² space. They are two 50 m² spaces. Adding up the square metres of separate rooms and putting in one large unit doesn't work, because fragrance doesn't travel well through doors or partitions.

There are two solutions. A standalone unit for each closed room, matched to its size. Or, if there is ducted air conditioning reaching every room, an ATMOS or HALO distributing from a single maintenance point.

When to use two units instead of one

  • Long or L-shaped venue. One unit at each end distributes better than one large unit in the middle.
  • Street door left open or an automatic entrance. Some of the scent escapes. A second point near the entrance makes up for it.
  • High ceilings. If you don't want to move up a model, two units at mid-height.
  • Areas with different uses. Main room with the brand scent, toilets or kitchen with a neutralizer. Never the same unit for both.

What you should avoid is the opposite: putting a very large unit in a small room and turning the intensity down. The scent overpowers, every change to the programmer is noticeable and you pay for the large model's consumption. And if the unit is too small, turning up the intensity doesn't give it more reach, it just uses more fragrance around the device.

Once chosen, programming does the rest: higher intensity at opening and peak hours, lower the rest of the day and off outside opening hours. That is what avoids saturation and keeps consumption under control.

Noise: which model for a quiet area

In consulting rooms, offices and rest areas it matters. The SENSE runs at 30 dB or less, the quietest in the range. The LUME at 38 dB or less. ORBIT and HALO at 40 dB or less. ATMOS, WAVE and NOVA at 45 dB or less.

Frequently asked questions

Which diffuser do I need for a 100 m² venue?

A LUME covers up to 100 m² with a 200 ml tank. If the ceilings are high, there are draughts or the venue is long, the 120 m² FLOW, which also has a 500 ml tank.

And for a 300 or 500 m² venue?

If it is open-plan, an ORBIT (600 m²). If it has ducted air conditioning and several rooms, an ATMOS. If the rooms are separate with no ducts, several room units each matched to its space.

Do the WAVE and NOVA connect to the air conditioning?

No. They are floor-standing towers that diffuse into the air of the room. The ducted models are ATMOS, up to 600 m², and HALO, up to 800 m².

Does the fragrance need diluting in water?

No. All these units nebulize the fragrance cold, with no water and no heat. Water damages the system. The nebulizer is cleaned every 3 months.

How long does a 250 ml refill last?

It depends on intensity, schedule and size. As a reference, 1 month with the unit running 24 hours at high intensity, and much longer during business hours at medium intensity. The 250 ml refill costs €29.99 in the NATURAL line and €34.99 for the numbered fragrances and neutralizers; the 150 ml, €24.99 and €29.99. With the monthly scenting plan, fragrance is included.
