If you have been looking into how to scent your business professionally, you have almost certainly come across the term “professional nebuliser”. What exactly is it, and how does it differ from an ultrasonic diffuser or an electric air freshener? Here is everything you need to know.
What is a professional nebuliser?
It is a device that turns pure fragrance into ultra-fine particles by cold nebulisation, without water and without heat. Those particles, between 1 and 10 microns, stay suspended in the air for hours and spread evenly through the entire volume of the space.
The word “professional” is what sets them apart from domestic ultrasonic diffusers, which run on water, and from electric air fresheners, which vaporise with heat. Professional nebulisers are built to run continuously in large spaces with precise control over the diffusion.
How it works
The principle is the Venturi effect: a stream of compressed air passes through a capillary tube immersed in the liquid and creates a low-pressure zone that draws it upwards. As it leaves the nozzle, the liquid breaks into extremely fine particles that are projected into the room.
The whole process happens at room temperature, hence the term “cold nebulisation”, which preserves the composition of the fragrance. Thermal diffusion alters the volatile compounds with heat; in the cold, what you smell is exactly what is in the liquid.
Nebuliser vs. ultrasonic diffuser
This is the most frequent comparison. Ultrasonic units are cheaper and popular in the domestic market, but they have clear limitations for professional use.
Humidity. The ultrasonic unit runs on water and produces vapour. In spaces with electronics, paper or sensitive materials, that is a problem. The nebuliser adds no humidity at all.
Concentration. The ultrasonic unit dilutes the fragrance in water, giving a weaker scent that does not last as long. The nebuliser uses the pure liquid.
Coverage. Domestic ultrasonic units cover 25-30 m² at most. The professional range goes from a small washroom up to surfaces of more than a thousand metres.
Autonomy. The ultrasonic unit has to be topped up almost daily. A professional refill lasts weeks or months depending on the unit and the intensity.
Programming. The professional unit lets you schedule times, days and intensity. The domestic one has minimal controls.
How to choose the model
By volume, not by floor area: square metres multiplied by ceiling height. And with two corrections, how ventilated the premises are (a door open onto the street or powerful air conditioning disperse it faster) and the flow of people.
The BENDIS range covers everything from compact units for a washroom or a small reception up to models for hotel lobbies, large retail floors and warehouses. There is also a model with a rechargeable battery for spaces with no power socket or for temporary use at events. See the catalogue with the coverage of each model.
Maintenance
It is minimal: replace the refill when it runs out and clean the nebulisation nozzle from time to time with isopropyl alcohol. There are no moving parts that wear out significantly.
On the monthly scenting plan, maintenance is included: if the unit gives any trouble, it is replaced at no cost.
Getting it up and running
The unit arrives already configured for the size of your space. You place it at the point with the best air circulation, plug it in, fit the refill and that is it: five minutes. No building work, no installation and no technician's visit.
For air-conditioned spaces, there is the option of connecting it to the HVAC system and using the existing ducts as the distribution network. That is the most uniform solution when there are a lot of metres and several rooms.
On the monthly scenting plan, from €29.90/month + VAT per unit, with fragrance included and monthly resupply. No minimum term and no upfront investment. You can also buy the unit and the refills separately.
