Why people search for "the smell of Stradivarius"
It is one of the most repeated searches about scent in shops: someone walks into a fashion store, the smell stays with them and later they try to work out what it is so they can have it at home. It happens with several fashion chains, not just that one.
Let us start with the honest part: we do not know which fragrance each chain uses or who makes it for them, and anyone who tells you with certainty probably does not either. What can be explained is why it works and how something similar is built for your business.
What an odotype is
The odotype (scent logo) is a brand's olfactory signature: the equivalent of the logo or the corporate colours, but in scent. Its value does not lie in the fragrance being spectacular, but in it being repeated. A customer who walks in twenty times a year ends up associating that smell with that brand without meaning to.
That is why the most expensive mistake in retail is not choosing the wrong fragrance: it is changing it every season. The association is built through repetition and destroyed by rotation.
Which scent registers are used in fashion
- Young fashion: fresh, citrus or white floral registers that convey energy and cleanliness. In our catalogue: Lemon, Orange Blossom, Nº3.
- Premium fashion: woody and oriental, denser and longer lasting. Nº4, Nº10, Nº12, Nº23.
- Sportswear: clean and minty. Mint or Green Tea.
- Brands with a natural profile: green and discreet. Green Tea, Fig.
The full range is in the fragrance catalogue.
What almost nobody tells you about the big stores
That scent is the last layer, not the first. A shop with badly ventilated fitting rooms, a saturated carpet or a stockroom at the back will smell of exactly that, however much fragrance you put on top. In retail the usual problem areas are the fitting rooms, the stockroom and the till area at the end of the day.
The order, as always: deal with the source, ventilate, neutralise if needed and scent afterwards.
How to set it up in a shop
It is sized by square metres: FLOW covers 120 m², ORBIT 600 m² and HALO 800 m². In shops with the door open onto the street it is best not to place the unit next to the entrance, where the draught carries the scent away, but further inside.
On rental, from 29.90 €/month + VAT per unit with refills included and no minimum term, which is what makes this more than a big-chain affair.
And if no catalogue fragrance fits the brand, there is the option of a bespoke odotype: a custom development quoted according to its scope. We explain it in what an odotype is.
