Crete is the largest Greek island and has the longest season, from April to November. The big resorts line the north coast: Hersonissos and Malia, with hotels of hundreds of rooms, and Elounda and Agios Nikolaos, with quieter luxury, private villas and spas. These are large buildings with spacious lobbies, ducted air conditioning and plenty of common areas, and there a unit connected to the ducts does more than several standalone ones.
Head west and the type of stay changes. The Venetian old towns of Chania and Rethymno are full of boutique hotels in restored mansions, with thick stone walls that hold moisture, while Apokoronas and the Akrotiri peninsula have holiday villas with pools. In resort restaurants and buffets the challenge is the opposite: keeping kitchen smells out of the dining room and restrooms. How much does it cost to scent a resort in Crete?
It's worked out zone by zone and you buy each unit once. With ducted air conditioning, the HALO (up to 800 m²) costs 194,99 € and the WAVE (up to 875 m²) 224,99 €; a lobby or spa without ducts is covered by an ORBIT (up to 600 m²) for 149,99 €. VAT included; after that you only pay for fragrance, 34,99 € for a 250 ml refill or 31,49 € a month on subscription.
Can you scent the restaurant or buffet without clashing with the food?
A strong fragrance is not a good idea where people eat. What works is neutralizing near the kitchen and in the restrooms, and keeping the scent for the restaurant entrance, the lobby and the corridors. That way the dining room smells clean and the food stays centre stage.
Does it work in a hotel inside a Venetian mansion in Chania or Rethymno?
Yes. Standalone units plug in and are programmed from the app: no drilling or cabling in old walls. If ground-floor rooms smell damp because of the stone, start with the neutralizer and then move on to a soft fragrance.
How long does delivery to Crete take, and are there customs duties?
