To install a scent diffuser safely in a venue open to the public, place it above head height and out of reach of children and animals, with no cables in walkways and away from kitchens, sterile areas and very small spaces. Run it at the lowest perceptible intensity and store refills closed and labelled.
At home you put a diffuser wherever you like. In a venue open to the public there are a few things worth thinking about first, and almost none of them have to do with the scent.
Height and out of reach
The basic rule: above head height and out of a child's reach. Up there the scent spreads better and nobody can touch, move or knock it over.
In venues with animals (vets, pet shops, dog-friendly hotels) height matters for another reason: a nervous animal may react to the device's pulse if it is right next to it. We explain it in scenting veterinary clinics.
Power supply
- No cables crossing walkways. If the socket is not where you need it, a battery model is a better solution than an extension lead. You will find the comparison in battery or plug-in diffuser.
- Use the charger and cable supplied with the device. A lower-power charger makes it nebulise less well.
- In areas with water (toilets, a spa's wet area), the device must be protected from direct splashes.
Zones where no device goes
| Zone | Reason |
|---|---|
| Kitchens and food handling | It interferes with the food and with the venue's hygiene rules |
| Treatment rooms, operating theatres and sterile areas | The centre's health protocol comes first |
| Fitting rooms and very small, enclosed spaces | They saturate immediately |
| Next to displayed products | The outlet must not point at goods or surfaces |
Sensitive people
In any busy venue there are people with respiratory sensitivity or who simply dislike certain smells. Three things avoid most problems:
- Always run at the lowest perceptible intensity.
- Leave an area unscented when someone asks, without arguing.
- Programme the device only during opening hours, so the scent does not build up overnight while the venue is closed.
In offices, letting the team know before switching it on makes a big difference to how they react. It is explained in scenting offices and coworking spaces. If you have doubts about output, see how to choose your diffuser's intensity.
Product and storage
Refills are stored closed, upright, away from heat sources and out of the public's reach. They are never decanted into an unlabelled container. If someone needs to consult the safety data sheet, they must be able to identify the product.
BENDIS fragrances are concentrated fragrances made in Spain, with their safety data sheet available. Ask for it if your venue needs it for its internal documentation.
Anti-theft in high-traffic venues
In very exposed areas (shop entrances, hotel corridors, gyms) it pays to secure the device. That is what the anti-theft kit for nebulisers is for, which costs far less than replacing a diffuser.
Quick checklist before switching it on
- Device above head height and stable.
- No cables in walkways.
- Away from kitchens, sterile areas and displayed products.
- Intensity at the lowest perceptible level.
- Refills stored and labelled.
- Nebuliser cleaning logged every 3 months.
If you tell us about your venue at info@bendis.es, we will tell you which model and placement fit, remotely and with photos. The manuals for each device are on the manuals page.
Frequently asked questions
Is a scent diffuser safe in a venue with children?
Yes, if it is out of their reach and at low intensity. Cold-air nebulisers use no flame or heat, which reduces the risk compared with candles or burners.
Do I need a permit to install a diffuser in my business?
Generally not. If your activity has its own rules (health, food), check them and keep the fragrance's safety data sheet to hand.
Where should the diffuser go in a small venue?
Up high, near the entrance or in the centre of the space, with the outlet clear and not pointing at people or products.
